Fakenham is thrilled to announce that we will be holding these popular road races on Easter Sunday 1st April 2018. This will be part of a Funday which will involve a series of official British Cycling Criterium road races and a Runengland 5k running race, as well as a 1K Fun Run with an Easter Goody bag for children taking part. There will be stalls in the Fakenham Market Place. All runners will get a medal and there will be prizes for winning runners and riders.
A one kilometre circuit through the town centre will be closed to facilitate the event. Race entries are limited so it advised to book early and electronic chip timing (not for the Fun run) so everyone will know their own time. There is a limit of 350 5K runners and 350 1k Fun Runners.

This is intended to be a fun and enjoyable event to take part in or just to come along to watch and cheer people on. It should be an exciting spectacle to watch. There will be commentary for all races broadcast across the market place.

Fakenham Criterium Races 2018

1st April 2018

These races will be run on closed roads round the picturesque North Norfolk town centre on an approx. 1k circuit. The event is being run by Active Fakenham with the help of the local club the East Coast Riders and others from around Norfolk.

The town centre will be closed to traffic for the day. Events will include British Cycling licenced cycle races for various ages and abilities, a 1K Easter Fun run, a 5K RunEngland mixed ability road race and local organisations running stalls and activities.

Criterium races cover most abilities from youth to National B (E,1, 2, 3) and a cat 4 race and this year includes a women’s race. Numbers will be limited to 45 per race as the one kilometre course is challenging with some tight corners, narrow roads and various surfaces, but with some fast straights and slight hills.

vacwash-sparesGina McCormack runs her very useful stall Vac Wash Spares on the market area in front of Argos, next to Christie’s Cheese stall. She sell lots of essential items – vacuum cleaner spares and all sorts of car care products.

Where are you from?
Sheringham.

How long have you been at Fakenham Market?
34 years.

What are your opening times here?
6.30am – 2.30pm.

What other markets do you attend?
Sheringham (Wednesday & Saturday)

What led you to running this stall?
I looked after a stall for a friend in London. I had been working at Heathrow Airport and I never went back! I liked market trading so much that I did a diploma in market management and worked as a field support officer for NMTF (National Market Traders Federation). But I missed trading myself, and so came back to running a stall.

What do you like about coming to Fakenham Market?
I like the fact that market is all to do with personal service . It’s a very friendly, informal market.

What are your best selling items?
Vacuum cleaner bags, and spare parts; Autoglym products, car care consumables, chamois and sponges.

Local Charity Event – 9th & 11th August

clicsargentA locally-based team of youngsters who’ve joined National Citizen Service are organising two charity events. They’ve got one planned for Fakenham Tesco on Tuesday 9th August and another in Fakenham Market on Thursday 11th August. They’re both to raise awareness and funds for CLIC Sargent.

Here’s a message from the group…

“Please come along to Tesco in Fakenham on Tuesday 9th August for face painting, tombola, your favourite characters in fancy dress and much more family fun all in aid of CLIC Sargent, a charity who offers help and support to children and their families who are suffering with cancer. Also in Fakenham on Thursday 11th similar family fun at Fakenham Market. All ages welcome, please help us make a difference!”

Their Event Page on Facebook is here. Let them know you’re going (there’s a button on their page) and please help them promote it by sharing the event page with your FB Friends.

CLIC Sargent is a charity which supports young cancer sufferers. It was formed in 2005 after a successful merger between CLIC and Sargent Cancer Care for Children.

National Citizen Service (NCS) is a not-for profit social enterprise open to 15 to 17 years-olds, set up to provide challenges through social action and build skills for work and life.

Gerry Colvin is a brilliantly original singer-songwriter with a wonderful stage presence. Poignant, quirky lyrics that really touch your heart combined with hilarious audience interaction between songs. An
experience not to be missed.

Adobe Photoshop PDFMany of us locally have seen and heard this wonderful performer at the annual Folk on the Pier festival in Cromer and now we are really thrilled to be hosting a gig for him and his latest band in Fakenham! Over the years he has released numerous CDs but to get the full experience – you just have to see him live with an audience. Don’t let the ‘folk’ label put you off – his songs appeal across the generations and varied tastes of music followers, his insightful lyrics, catchy tunes and great sense of humour and enthusiasm cannot fail to give you a memorable night out.

In the early 1980’s he co-founded and fronted the legendary John Peel favourite skiffle-cowpunk indie outfit Terry & Gerry. This seminal band toured Europe and the USA and appeared on countless Radio and TV shows including “The Tube” and “The Old Grey Whistle Test”.

In the early 1990’s Gerry worked in Nashville as a professional songwriter and back in the UK collaborated with Alison Moyet, co-writing on an album project. He also penned TV themes, musicals, film scores and wrote and presented for BBC Radio 2. His band Gerry Colvin’s Inexperience, a fusion of Soul, R and B and Folk-Country, became a firm favourite on the College circuit.

In 1995 Gerry co-founded the five piece folk band ColvinQuarmby. They released six critically acclaimed albums and were voted best band at the prestigious Fairport Convention Cropredy Festival in 2009. In 2010 they won the Hancock Award for ‘Best Live Folk Act’.

In 2015 the original line-up of Terry and Gerry reformed and toured nationally with rock heroes Status Quo culminating with a concert at The Albert Hall!! Terry and Gerry also appeared at Glastonbury that year and released the ‘Dear John’ EP: a self penned tribute to the late John Peel. And also since 2015 Gerry has a brand new band of his own…with all the appeal of his previous incarnations…..come along and see for yourself!
